Do you build off of the Zen theme?

I'm wondering what people think about using Zen as a starting theme on which to build other (fixed-width) themes. I remember hearing that some people like it because of its visual simplicity, but I know that its use of z-index can complicate things with incorrectly overlapping elements that have different z-indexes. Is there any consensus about this? I know Hunchbaque is a great place to start but wonder what people think about Zen. Best, Ezra Gildesgame

Thanks for the replies. I'll try your advice. Really what i was trying to achieve is more or less just learn about Drupal. Specifically i actually wanted to get some insight into the flow of things. So i was trying to override a function which at first does not change anything in terms of the rendered webpage. And then from there change little things just to see what happens. overriding function in template.php

Hi, i sent out an email with a question related to overriding functions in template.php a couple of days ago. Maybe i was unclear or so, but no one ever responded. However, i am not the only one who got a little confused. So maybe, if any of the experts could post a response to the issue at: http://drupal.org/node/173282#comment-279725 i would greatly appreciate it. Also, is it possible to 'subscribe' to an issue? I.e. is it possible to get notified when someone post a reply? thanks mat

drupal_render() problem

Hi, i am somewhat new to drupal and so this is probably a trivial problem. I am playing around with theming (i.e. trying to learn how to). Anyway, on my site i have the loggintoboggan module enabled and i would like to change the appearance of the login block. Currently the block simply displays the login/register link. I did not want to touch the module so i thought i'd override the function. This is what i did: - i looked at loggintoboggan.module and found the 'user_login_block' case - in my template.php i added: function phptemplate_user_login_block($form) { return _phptemplate_callback('user_login_block', array('form' => $form)); } - i created user_login_block.tpl.php which contains: <h1> SOMETHING </h1> <?php print "<pre>"; print_r(array_values($form)); print"</pre>"; print_r(drupal_render($form)); ?> The 'SOMETHING' is displayed properly as well as the printing of the array_values. However, the call to drupal_render(...) does not seem to do ANYTHING. What am i doing wrong? I am using drupal 5.0. thanks mat

If you are interested in a Adobe Dreamweaver third-party extension for novice to advanced theme developers please contact me privately. This extension would aim to ease the development time in creating simple to advanced templates for Drupal 5/6 and so on if there is enough interest.
