What's the best way to close a project?

Hello all, I've been maintaining a module that I now feel would be better bundled with its parent module, which I also maintain. Specifically, the Workflow Graph (http://drupal.org/project/workflow_graph) module is tiny and depends totally on Graphviz Filter (http://drupal.org/project/graphviz_filter) I have added the Workflow Graph files to the latest release of Graphviz Filter, and I would now like to close the Workflow Graph project page (and CVS folder too if possible). My question is: what's the best practice to do so? How would that affect running instances of Workflow Graph (which in this case, are only a handful)? Thanks for your advice, K.

[off topic] schema-less data

Hi, The following post discusses how FriendFeed uses MySQL in a schema-less data model: http://bret.appspot.com/entry/how-friendfeed-uses-mysql. They report an improvement both on speed, stability and flexibility. I find this very interesting, and actually quite troubling. Does one really benefit from moving *away* from RDBMS's? My natural way of thinking is totally different - whenever we can define the business logic in relational terms, we should let the database do the heavylifting, and push *more* logic onto it - cause that's what they do best. I marked this as off topic, cause it's not really Drupal related, but I'm curious about your insights about this approach. Object Caching in DRUPAL-7?

Greetings, I'd like to take the community's temperature on developing a global object caching strategy for drupal core 7.0. In effect, this would mean pulling the functionality of advcache module into core, though the code would doubtless be a bit different. This has been previously discussed by Robert Douglass and Steve Rude, and I think both the short-term and strategic value here is clear. As memcached permeates the collective consciousness of the web-development community, and as "cloud" computing becomes more and more prevalent, best practices in architecture increasingly point towards caching full objects whenever possible. This also fits well with Drupal's existing architecture. There are great functional points (e.g. node_load()) to mount this functionality. I'm certain I'm not the only one thinking along these lines. Anyone want to throw out their ideas? cheers -josh

I am now running VIM 7.2 and love the tabs and auto complete features for PHP and other Web based technologies. Has anyone written a auto complete file yet for Drupal 5/6/7 branches yet? Hey all, I've been using Komodo for a while and while I like its built-in support for xdebug (breakpoints, stepping, stack trace, the whole enchilada) and code intel. But I hate it because it's a terrible resource hog. I've been using Coda for a couple weeks, and although it's extremely pretty, it lacks a few pretty key things, xdebug support being the main one. I used TextMate before Komodo and am thinking of going back, but I really would hate to live without debugging/xdebug support. Also, I've tried Eclipse and don't like it. Thoughts? TextMate + some magic to support xdebug maybe? -Dom

Greetings, sorry if I couldn't answer earlier to all the feedback that came in the original thread a couple weeks ago. It looks like several things I wrote were simply ignored by some posters. I'm going to shortly sum them up again, and then ask one (last, I promise) related question. IIRC, I had already made clear, before getting these answers, that: - I'm already much more expert in awk/sed/bash/perl coding than with PHP, so a non-php solution is much more time-efficient for me, if at all possible. Not to mention that those tools/languages give, in the real world of desktop/usb key linux distros, more guarantees to work out of the box without tweaking or installing extra-packages than anything requiring php. - I know very well what HTML forms and HTTP cookies are, and have already done this with non-drupal websites. And the URLs you see in the browser when you add content by hand are NOT "index.php + some parameters" - (almost) the only solution I am interested into is how to add new content remotely, when I cannot alter in any way the configuration of the server where Drupal runs. I'm not rewriting all this to start a fight, really, just to clarify why I asked what I asked and what I already know, that is to save your time. This said, I do understand all the points about Drupal being more interested in offering a flexible API than in supporting this kind of things. So, I will now go back to my desk and put together, by myself, my custom shell+curl hack based on the one posted here by Martin Stadler (thanks, Martin!). However, let me ask you this: If you already said it, I do confess I didn't recognize it: what is the smallest possible set of Drupal(related) Php **files or libraries** that I should install on a Linux *desktop* without HTTP server but with a working PHP-CLI interpreter, to put together a PHP script which can log into a remote Drupal site and add nodes?
