cck not saving field values

I'm having troubles creating cck nodes in drupal. I created a cck node type with several fields, none of them marked as mandatory. Now, apparently for no reason, after I create a new node of this type, none of the cck fields holds its value. The process is: 1- I submit the creation form (node/add/..) with valid values. 2- Drupal shows me the node page (node/1234) only with my non-cck data (title, body, etc.). If I edit the node, then the new values are saved (and displayed). If I try node_load, no cck fields are filled in with data, and if I search directly on the database, there are no cck data related to this node. If I take a look at the $node on hook_nodeapi when $op is 'insert', and it shows perfect, with all cck fields as I filled in on the form. If I call cache_clear_all() inside hook_nodeapi when $op is 'insert', nothing changes, and the node ends up void again. But if I clear the cache the 'Devel' way (clear css cache and then clear each cache table) inside hook_nodeapi when $op is 'insert', the cck data of the node magically shows up on the node page, and is not lost when I call node_load or watch in the database. Somehow, this didn't happen the day before, with no changes to the code and no changes to the content. It just started to happen now, and only with this node type. I plan to go further with this, but I have no time now. I just feel lucky and try this mailing list to see if anyone has a clue for me. Batch API on cron

Hi, I'm reading contradicting posts about running Batch API processes on cron. This is for Drupal 6 BTW. I have tried implementing a batch functionality that should be run on cron, but it doesn't seem to process the work that needs to be done. I assume this is because running the cron through a commandline command doesn't allow for javascript... So my questions: - Have I implemented Batch API incorrectly, and should it normally work also on cron? - What is the best way to run a process that would normally trigger a php script timeout? Can I use the Queue module for that? I'm sure plenty of people have already tried doing this, so I'm not sure why I can find little consistent information about it. Thanks for your feedback. Sven

Rewrite rules and file access

Hi I asked this one on the list during Drupalcon SF but got no response (the list was quiet that week!) so here goes again: *The Background* --------------- I've got a module I'm working on that needs to force some images to go via the private download method. This is working fine rerouting links via system/files in combination with a htaccess file limiting direct access to the directory. I also need thumbnails in various sizes of the images so it makes sense to use imagecache. I want the site in public download method except for these files and I've successfully got the imagecache integration working. I've used hook_menu_alter to prevent people accessing the relevant imagecache file path directly, rerouting the imagecache cached images via system/files. The problem is, once the imagecache file is created, the file is no longer being served via Drupal, with Apache serving it direct. This obviously does not get near my access callback. *The Questions* --------------- Is this down to Drupal's rewrite rules? Are the rewrite rules not evaluated if the file actually exists? Can I create a rewrite rule to force this file to go through Drupal - the relevant files all contain a common element in their path so I should be able to match it) or do I need to consider alternatives such as creating .htaccess files in the subfolders for each imagecache preset, monitoring for new presets? Any suggestions welcome. Lee Rowlands

Convert location Distance to dropdown

Is there an official stance on using hook_schema_alter to add columns to core tables? For example, we collect additional data on anonymous comments and want to actually save that data. Rather than creating another table (and subsequent JOINs), I'd just as soon stuff that data into the comments table, where it belongs. Passing options to the front page

I'd like to have some dynamic theme changes to the front page based on items clicked on the front page. What's the best way to do this? I know that ?page= is valid, as is ?q=, but am unsure how to add my own key/value and react to it. If it were another page I'd use a callback, but it being the front page seems to require a different approach. Jeff
