Breadcrumb and menu issues

I have Views generating a list of links to all schools in the system. That works fine, even the glossary style stuff (neat stuff, Earl). However, when someone clicks on the link and the node shows up, there is no breadcrumb (except "Home") or menu displayed. I surmised that this is because those nodes are not in a menu. The menu is generated by menu_tree_page_data(). So, I thought I'd get around that by adding a menu item for each school below (i.e. as a child of) the "All Schools" menu item. I know how to specify the menu name, but how does one say that this item should be below such-and-such a parent? The parent has a link_path of node/206, so I can't very well make the path "node/206/node/118". Given that there are 130+ schools, this may make the menu unwieldy. Nancy E. Now that Killes has tweaked the Mailman settings, incoming messages from an email address that isn't actually registered on the mailing list will now bounce, and the sender will receive the above error message, rather than having their email disappear into The Abyss. I only discovered that this problem existed because I've been sending dozens of emails to the dev list for quite some years without paying attention to my own originating address, and apparently not a single one has made it to the list. All this time, I thought my words were being read but nobody ever responded. Now I know the truth; no one could hear me. :) Thanks for fixing this with me, Killes! I think aside from ontological questions pertaining to particular social groupings, a more important point was passed yesterday, and I don't even remember who said it. But what I took away from it was this: The proper place for answers to any questions that are bound to be asked over and over again is NOT a live channel or email list at all. The proper place for FAQs is a website. If you ask FAQs on a developer list - ANY developer list - the proper answer is a URL. Or a handful of URLs. Whether they are "intended" to work this way or not, the Forums (and to a lesser degree, the Groups) actually serve this kind of purpose very well. The Forums are always my first stop, and often my last. If I had a major say in any restructuring of the Drupal cosmos, I would try to centralize the Forums and Groups in peoples' minds, and make much better use of taxonomy on d.o. An Exercise: If you find yourself about to answer the same question for the 3rd time, don't do it. Instead, go out to the Forums, open an issue or start a handbook page. Put your answer there. Title it well. Tag it well. From then on, just answer with the URL. Then the listmembers and IRCsters could go back to saying "RTFM" and the noobs would know where to go. minimizing views_default_views in a module

I'm working on a new drupal 6.x module (currently in sandbox awaiting review - http://drupal.org/sandbox/sdague/1072704) which exports it's data via views. When I implemented hook_views_default_views() I just used the export functionality on views for a few basic views to get things started. That works, but those are both very verbose, and don't implement any i18n. Is there a standard way of trimming down the default values in those views so this becomes a bit more sane and maintainable? I have to admit that I have always used support(a)drupal.org for the kinds of questions it seems you want to move off of this list. I also want to ditto @ayendesigns sentiment about the "warm and fuzzy" feelings - I have learned a tremendous amount from subscribing to this list during the past few months and would hate for it to go belly-up. The ability for me to hear and see how a "heavy-hitter" reaches for a solution and organizes a way to teach and answer in the same breath to a newbie question has been educational for me. Let's keep this list and off-load inappropriate questions as gracefully as possible. Is there some type of notice that can be provided for newbies on the cover of this list? A sticky note at the top kind of thing? I also realize that many new people are coming as the result of Drupal's success and there are many folks who do not know how to use IRC, search lists, subscribe to lists, etc. The only way to learn those kinds of things is to search, READ, and share with others. How implement global variables that vary depending on the server (i.e. production, test, demo) within Drupal?

For java webapps within Apache Tomcat I use a web.xml file which contains the global variables that are specific to that server so that the production server will have one web.xml file and the test server will have a different web.xml file. How can I do something similar for global variables that vary depending on the server (i.e. production, test, demo) within Drupal? Thanks, John

Doubt on Index and Primary key

HI All In .install file, in hook_schema unction, we are mentioning index field and primary key field. I am wondering, how to choose which one should be index and which one should be primary key. Does that affect the performance (in search, add, delete of records). What I am thinking at this point of time, my database will contain job seekers name, mail-id, contact number, skill set (as comma separated values) and resume. For index purpose, I am thinking I will use '$user->uid' as Index and and 'name' as primary key. I am bit confused how it it is going to affect search/add/delete time (assuming huge number of records in database) and also database management. Please guide me. Regards Austin

Skipping validation on date field

I have a birthdate date field in a form where I am using #after_build to modify. The modifications to the drop down values are: - add a "select month", "select day", and "select year" options to their respective drop downs - change the range of years in the year drop down This field(s) is not required. However, if I don't select anything in the drop downs and leave each on the "select month/day/year" values, Drupal validation tells me that the selected date is not valid. How can I tell Drupal to skip this validation? Even if I try to validate this field in hook_form_validate it still tells me the data is invalid. Jeff

D6 hook_views_data, external DB

Hi Drupalistas, A little stumped on describing my tables to views in D6. Specifically, I can't figure out how to join tables correctly.
