Continued Services woes

After hours of searching, scouring, absorbing it was determined that there was little hope of (currently) getting past Services 2.4 and REST returning a 404 error, so I switched to xmlrpc. I have a simple script to hit my service from outside the site, fine-tuned a couple dozen times based on various recommendations, to currently be: $url = "http://localhost/mydomain/services/xmlrpc"; $ch = curl_init(); $data = 'method=my.method&id=12345&text=hello'; curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $data); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url); $response = curl_exec($ch); with $data as a string like above, I continuously receive: faultCode -32700 faultString Parse error. Request not well formed. If I change the postfields to be an array('method'=>'my.method','id'=>12345... I instead continuously receive a message that xmlrpc will only handle Post transactions. -- /I am a non sequitur. Drupal resources (the short list) http://drupal.org/start http://acquia.com/resources http://www.lullabot.com/ http://www.lynda.com/search?q=drupal Do you want to focus on developing or theming? I recommend you pick one to start at least. It's taken me many years to be able to do both. For front end theming you need to know CSS and jQuery, and a bit of PHP and HTML. For back end developing you need to know PHP and MySQL and HTML, and a bit of CSS and jQuery. Some people think theming is easier but I know from experience they both are complex in different ways. Good tutorials for HTML CSS JavaScript jQuery PHP MySQL and more at http://w3schools.com Also, I think you should just focus on learning Drupal 7. By the time you are ready, D6 will just be used on legacy sites.

Hi, i am working in drupal6. i am using ahah_helper module to do some update process. But when i select a particular record with parameter value, i am able to bring the values to the respected fields. But i am not able to do the update process. The form is not submitted. Tips for a new developer

Hi, I am beginning to develop for drupal and plan to use it as my framework. I've been using Zend for a while so I am still trying to get used to the way things are done. So far I have some questions about strategies for development since I try to follow a TDD methodology (test driven development) where I develop the tests first and then go actually developing the code that performs the expected behavior. If possible I'd like to receive any tips / tutorials about module creation and testing methodologies. Regards.

Looking through the API documentation (API.drupal.org) for drupal hooks, the form API, the field API, etc is a strong start. Also joining the irc channel and helping/learning. Okay, now that the switch finally got thrown, I'm left with unfinished module updates and need to come up to speed quickly. I freely admit, I am not a super fan of CLI. I used to use TortoiseCVS. I've downloaded TortoiseGit, but am totally lost. I'm not finding a lot on GUI use on DO. Did I miss it? Or is there someone who can talk me through the common module dev functions (off-list)? Nancy

git main branch - how to use it, or not use it

There is a lot of discussion and ideas about git work flows right now. It will probably take some time for best practices to evolve and gain acceptance on d.o Regarding the main branch, others have said it seems pretty useless when a release (dev in particular) cannot be attached to it anyway. I think the only thing 'special' about main is that it is the default checked out branch when cloning a repository. So, what to do with it... I like the way the rules project seems to be handling it: Just have a readme on the main branch noting that all files are located on other branches and all work should be done there. (Even though this might be a carryover from the good ole CVS days.) Any other suggestions or words of wisdom?

Git best practices for client codebases

Since a Git clone downloads the entire Drupal repository, the Drupal codebase is no longer so lightweight (~50MB) if you are using Git, especially as if you clone contrib module repositories as well. With CVS, our usual practice with clients was to checkout core and contrib using CVS, so that we can easily monitor any patches that have been applied, so that they wouldn't be lost when updating to newer releases. (Drush makes this particularly easy.) This is doable with Git as well, but now there seems to be the added cost of having to download the full repository. This is great when doing core/contrib development, but not really necessary for client work. This is unavoidable as far as I can tell, but I don't think I'm satisfied with the "just use a tarball and don't hack core/contrib" solution, especially when patches come into play. Is there something I'm missing/not understanding here, or does one just have to accept the price of a bigger codebase when using Git to manage core/contrib code? Or is managing core/contrib code this way passe now that updates can be done through the UI? -marco****

Different "Main menu" for each people group.

I was told that I could accomplish my request as described in the subject line of this email by using structure->blocks of the administration top bar in Drupal 7. My theme is Bartik. I notice as I went to structure->blocks that there is a section entitled disabled and that "Main Menu" is listed in that section. Well I think to myself..... BS! There clearly is a main menu that has a "Home" tab as well as a tab entitled "Admin" that I added myself that links to a content of type page that I also created myself. Do I need to add a block? I just want people that use my site to see one "Main Menu" and people that administer my site to see a different "Main Menu" and I am really looking for the easiest most expedient method to produce that result. What say the group? Thanks!
