aborting user registration and setting an error

Hi, I wrote a quick couple of lines of code that inserts a user into two other databases durning registration. I accomplished this with hook_user under the $op value of "insert". I want to add a check with this module. The check will search the other two databases for the email and username and make sure a dup is not about to be created. If so I need the user to be redirected back to the register page and user registration aborted. The problem is, that I put such a check and redirect in in my hook_user function, but drupal is still creating the users in it's database and redirecting the registration page with the error. I.E the registration process is not aborted. Maybe I need to use another $op value besides "insert"? Maybe a different hook? Maybe some function I am not aware of? Thanks --Trevor

In 4.7 you can assign regions to any template (node, comment, etc.)

I at least had overlooked the fact that in 4.7 we have the ability to assign regions not just to the page but to any other PHPTempalte template, e.g., node.tpl.php. I've updated the handbook with instructions on how to do this, http://drupal.org/node/29139. This approach should allow much more flexibility in theme design and in block coding for targetted areas, though some care will be needed to make it work intiutively. Issues include: * Users may be confused if they assign blocks to a region that only appears on node pages * Need to distinguish between full node listings and teasers. VIEWS MODULE: save a view as php code

Hi does anyone know how to save a particular view (made using the views module) as php code.. The idea is to tweak that php file to further customise the view page. The page url given as view/myview etc is an internal one right? Anyway i can get the php code of that location? o r is ther e a way to save the view page as a normal php file? tnx in advance Srimail.

xhtml and embed tag: best way to compliance?

Hi everybody, I'm working on making my video module full XHTML compliant. At the moment the module uses a lot of embed tags for displaying video content (Quicktime, Flash, Wmv, Real, etc...). The problem is that embed tags are NOT part of any W3C standard and make a Drupal site which uses the Video module NOT W3 standard compliant. W3 compliant tag for embedding videos on xhtml pages is object but it's not well supported by Internet Explorer... so an object only implementation is not possible. So I investigate on some work around to create valid code but still IE compatible.. And I finally get some types of solutions: 1 - Javascript hacks: basically leave only the object tag then onLoad add the embed tag to the document. 2 - CSS Tricks creating two nested objects then use some css hacks to hide one 3 - Extending XHTML extends default XHTML dtds to create a custom made embed tag While the first and second solutions are only hacks and are prone to errors and incompatibility between current and future versions of browsers, the third solution is much more elegant and should be supported by future versions of browsers without giving us headaches. So.. IMHO the best way in doing this is solution 3. Extending XHTML can be done in two ways: - creating a custom made DTD - extending an existing DTD by adding new rule as an internal subset directly in the document The problem is that using a customized DTD will produce a document not validable by W3C validator.. Other validators can be used. Instead extending DTD directly on document will create a W3 validable document but browsers (even firefox 1.5) will display a "]>" on the first line of the page... So... I'd like to hear your suggestion in facing this problem. For me the DTD extension on document is the best solution but I need to find some hacks to let browsers hide the "]>"... been following this thread, and as maintainer of logintoboggan module, it does seem to be a logical place to try to implement this functionality. however, the module is already trying to support several other login strategies, and i do have concerns about making the code a mess by trying to do everything. maybe this feature would be best implemented as a small contrib module of it's own? in any case, if somebody will file a feature request for this, i'll look at the code and see if it makes sense to go in there chad

How to validate a $node?

Hi all, For the node_import module which tries to import a whole set of nodes from a CSV file, I have the following problem: how does one validate a "$node" before "node_save()"ing it? Let me explain: In 4.6 we had the "node_validate($node)" function which validates the node (calling "hook_validate()" and "hook_nodeapi('validate')" as needed). If this was succesful (no "form_get_errors()"), then we could safely "node_save($node)" it. Now, in 4.7, most (if not all) validation is done using the form API, in things like "#validate" and "#required". For example, "story.module" requires that the title is not empty. It does that by setting a "#required" on the title-textfield. If I do: $node = (object) array('type' => 'story', 'uid' => 42, 'title' => ''); the node will pass "node_validate($node)", but this is because the validation inside "$form" was not run! So my questions are: - how does one validate a node programmatically *correctly*? - what is the point of the "node_validate()" function and the hooks if it doesn't actually *validate* the node at all? At least rename it to "node_noop()" so things are clear. - really, why have "node_validate()" at all? Does anyone do anything usefull in it? - and the real question: how does the following sequence of 4.6 translate into 4.7: $node->type = 'story'; $node->uid = 1; $node->title = ''; // invalid empty title! $node->body = ''; // invalid empty body! $node = node_validate($node); // if life was only that // that easy in 4.7... if (form_get_errors()) { // we detected the error... do something unset($GLOBALS['form']); // note: we unset $GLOBALS['form'] so the next time we // try this trick, form_get_errors() return the errors // of the last run and not of the previous. // If something like this would be possible in 4.7 it // would be great, but form_set_error() in 4.7 saves the // errors in a static variable inside form_set_error() // instead of in $GLOBALS['form']. I see no way to unset // that... $output .= node_view($node); } else { // no errors? hmm, great, save it... quickly before // "they" introduce something else that breaks // "common sense". Really: why call something // foobar_validate() if it doesn't validate anything // at all... Am I alone in this? Extending project module - Task due dates and integration with event.module

A client wants a project management module much like project.module, but with the ability to add due dates and integrate with the event.module calendar to see 'upcoming' tasks, etc. I know there is task.module but I'm not sure it carries all the great functionality that comes with project.module. Can anyone point me in the right direction before I start this?
