Hey folks, I'm working on a module which wants to squash a lot of things in page.tpl.php, e.g., the Edit / View / Outline / Etc tabs, the links at the bottom, the help button; and it wants to override the way breadcrumbs and title are handled. The only way I've found to do this is to adjust page.tpl.php and node.tpl.php with some logic like (if $node->type == 'mymodule'). However, this strikes me as not the best way (in the long haul) to do things, since it would require shipping a page.tpl.php file with the module for other people to use, or including a patch for the tpl.php files in the INSTALL.txt file, both of which seem like bad solutions. Is there a way for a module to overwrite tpl.php things without recourse to having people installing the module to edit their theme files? let's cleanup /misc

As 4.7 continues to grow and new files are added or about to be added (like the forthcoming textarea patch, w00t indeed!), I think it's time for an early spring cleaning on this folder. I recommend the following: delete /misc create: /images /images/logos (for those drupal powered logos) /scripts (merge with shell scripts perhaps?) /styles Thoughts? I think we should make this change before 4.7 ships, it should be relatively simple to do, we just need to agree on the best way to do it. So let's have at it! ted (m3avrck)

Bug fixing stalled?

By my count, there's about 90 "critical" bugs and nearly 400 "normal" bugs in cvs/4.7beta. For the past few days, I've been trying to fix a couple of bugs a day and clearing out ones that no longer apply. I want to encourage everyone to do the same. Overwhelmed by traffic on this list

Hey folks, I am not a big-time Drupal developer. My time is stretched pretty thin, and although there are some small-scale contributions I'd like to make to Drupal, it is not a primary time-sink for me. Therefore, although I need to find out about things like planned release dates and API or architectural changes which will impact my Drupal code, I don't need, and don't have the time, to participate in all the ongoing instructions on this list. While I can only speak definitively for myself, I imagine that I am not alone in this regard. I am wondering if it would be possible for a new list to be created for announcements which are of interest to all developers, including small-scale developers like me. It would be very helpful for me to be able to subscribe to such an announcement list and unsubscribe from the development list, the vast majority of whose traffic is not relevant to me. Is there any chance of that happening? Thanks, jik

That's what I do since half of what everyone talks about concerning code is beyond me :) However, it is good to see the focus of the discussions even when I don't understand the details. And you are right. Dries and others are very good about using good subject lines for announcements. It's easy to pick them up from the list of messages at the beginning of the digest. One thing that might help, though, is that sometimes the development list is very, very active and many digests go out during the day. For those following along, one digest a day is good, but more might not really be necessary. For mailman, set the "How big in Kb should a digest be before it gets sent out?" parameter for digest a lot higher than it currently is. "Should a digest be dispatched daily when the size threshold isn't reached?" should definitely be set to yes. Charlie Lowe

Good point. I had not got that far yet. My first concern was to find a way to allow each module (or core for that matter) define their icon file name and location. You will obviouslly need a way to theme it once you have it in the menu structure and want to display it. Like I said, I hope to be trying this soon so we'll see how it goes. patch to opt-in JS textarea resizers, instead of opt-out

Hello, I was experiencing quite some issues with the JS texterea resizers. Besides that I dislike such cruft (sorry features), in core, these issues were just annoying. I still remain with my point that such things are really candidates for contrib modules. But I think I found a nice intermediate solution: opt-in. http://drupal.org/node/44130. I patched the form-resizers to be off by default. I decided to mock up a patch that makes the form resizers opt-in: meaning developers can switch it -on- instead of having to swithc it -off-. On top of that, I patched chameleon to show the resizers! So we can also show the power of form theme functions in core! Advice for developing Drupal wiki module

I'm going to be leading an effort to help raise money to pay a developer to develop and/or improve a wiki module for Drupal. If you had some money at your disposal to fund this project, how would you direct the developer to approach the problem?
