[Redirect API] drupal_goto() and 301 permanent redirect.

Hello, How can I combine a drupal_goto() with a permanent redirect? I am creating a small phpbb_redirect module to go together with phpbb2drupal.module. The latter import the phpBB forum into Drupal, the former should redirect incoming links to the new Drupal forum. I would like to notify the search engines that the change is permanent. pathauto maintainership

Hi, I contacted mikeryan about this pathauto patch which seems to work well for the people who have used it and, since they searched it out, seems like a common request http://drupal.org/node/50328 Mike mentioned that he is no longer interested in maintaining pathauto and granted me CVS access to it. I'm not sure that I'm right to maintain it, but I know it's an important module for many many people and the issue queue could use some love: http://drupal.org/project/issues?projects=17345&states=1,2,8,13,14 If anyone is interested in... 1) the above patch I mentioned - it's functionally trivial, but perhaps some disagree whether the behavior is desired or not 2) maintaining pathauto 3) other patches that they feel should be committed. ...feel free to contact me or discuss here. phptemplate_user_list override

I posted this question to support group - no answer there, but the problem is VERY annoying So. I want to override user_list template (one, used for active/last users block). So, in 4.7 template.tpl.php added: function phptemplate_user_list($items, $title = NULL) { return _phptemplate_callback('user_list', array('items' => $items, 'title' => $title)); } and placed user_list.tpl.php in theme directory. This one contains <?php print ('Hello world!'); ?> for debugging. The cache is clear, and themes are reloaded, but *no change* in active/last user's block Missing something, or it's just bug? Data-driven database tables and updates

Nothing like sticking your neck out, eh? :-) One of the major improvements in 4.7 is the data-driven Forms API. Instead of having modules generate/munge form HTML directly, they generate and return a data structure describing the form they want. This leads to all kinds of benefits I don't need to enumerate here. Another major improvement in 4.7 is hook_install() and hook_update_N() which allow modules to programatically create and modify their own tables. Good stuff, but the modules must maintain separate code for MySQL and Postgres and generate/munge their tables directly. IMHO, _install() and _update_N() are to 4.7 what the pre-Forms API form-building techniques were to <=4.6. So, why not create a data-driven table creation/modification API? I'm not proposing a complex abstraction over all possible data storage mechanisms, just something that is enough to generate "CREATE TABLE" statements for MySQL and Postgres and, more importantly, allows Drupal to reflect on its own database scheme. Now that I think about it, I bet CCK has something like internally already. I haven't looked inside CCK yet. Very roughly, I'm envisioning something like this: function modulename_schema() { $tables['event']['#charset'] = 'utf8'; $tables['event']['nid'] = array( '#type' => DB_INT, '#dispwidth' => 10, '#signed' => FALSE, '#null' => FALSE, '#default' => '0'); $tables['event']['event_start'] = array(...); ...; return $tables; } This will provide numerous other advantages, most of which I probably haven't thought of. One would be to more cleanly control scheme changes for updates. One option would be to include a '#schema' version number field. For simple new columns, the Database API could execute the ALTER TABLE itself. For more complex changes, the module could specify a callback. Obviously the idea would need to be fleshed out more. If there is interest and is not already being done, I'll take it on (or at least get it started). Comments? Barry

I just spent the last few hours fixing my "fix" for the "Click to activate..." thing with IE. It turns out that the "flashvars" parameter, and many others, don't survive the "rewrite" in the current fix. Here's the new code: var objects = document.getElementsByTagName( 'object' ); for ( var i = 0; i < objects.length; i++ ) { var obj = objects[ i ]; var clone = obj .cloneNode( true ); var parent = obj .parentNode; var sibling = obj .nextSibling; parent.removeChild( obj ); parent.insertBefore( clone, sibling ); clone.outerHTML = clone.outerHTML; } Not as "clean" as before but then again it's a fix for IE, so it's almost to be expected. Cascading variable system

With the recent system configuration / data discussion going on, I thought perhaps I should dredge up this again : http://lists.drupal.org/archives/development/2005-11/msg00882.html Basic outline : Instead of using just 'name' as a key, add additional 'realm' and 'key' columns, which can then be used to build a layered set of variables. During initialisation, every module / system has the opportunity to load it's variables into the tree. For example : variable_init('system'); /// would load the basic system variables variable_init('theme', $GLOBALS['theme']); // would load theme specific settings. onto the stack. variable_init('user', $GLOBALS['user']->uid); // would load user specific settings. onto the stack. Basically this would allow us to do all kind of variable overriding, and could even be extended to use separate tables for each realm. To set a variable, you would still just use variable_set('variable', 'value'); // doesn't break anything that works now or to set it for a specific realm (like on the user profile edit page) : variable_set('variable', 'value', 'user', $edit['uid']); // set the variable for that specific user. This could also be extended to provide the following hard coded realms for install profiles and system administrators (and this is important) [top level] system wide overrides. Hard coded by the system maintainer in the settings.php [3] theme specific [2] user specific [1] system settings [0] install profile wide defaults [ hard coded by the install profile. this allows the 'reset to defaults' to not mess up the site] [-1] The default provided in the variable_get function. Only use this when nothing else is available. You would also need a function to switch around the order the variables are resolved in (for those wondering about expensive for loops, it should get collapsed with array_merge, so the lookups are only against one thing.) What is neat about this method, is modules could add in their own levels , such as node specific configuration , which extends to og specific configuration .. etc. I would also like to see this extended to the point that system wide overrides get disabled in the admin section. Hi, The first step of getting CCK closer to core is http://drupal.org/node/62340 . This was in the queue already but as Dries asked for reviews on it, webchick and I worked on it, so now it's really ready for reviews -- we have not found any obvious bugs. Regards NK
