Implementing without nodes

I'm trying to figure out how to implement several modules, that do not use nodes at all I need to set lots of forms, this forms are used to edit, insert or search my tables I'm having dificulty controling the data flow of my forms. What hooks I use? I try hook_form, but any code I set there isnt executed. Every site about hook_form, uses node! Can I do that without nodes? TIA Feijó

Forms API -- default values without anything in database

I've been pounding my head against this one all afternoon, and have been all through the documentation, and am utterly stymied. I can't even find an extant module that does this, but I'm certain _someone_ has already invented this wheel. I'm working with a fresh CVS checkout of Drupal 5.x. I have a module that creates and maintains a database table that is NOT related in any way to nodes. I am implementing a search function that presents a form allowing users to enter the desired match values, then presents a table with a list of matching records. No problem on any of this. The problem is how do I get the form to REDISPLAY the search values when it has been submitted, so that they become the default values for the search fields next time? My form creation code looks similar to this: function mymodule_form_query($form_values = null) { $form = array( 'basic' => array( '#type' => 'fieldset', '#tree' => false, '#title' => t('Basic search'), 'last_name' => array( '#type' => 'textfield', '#title' => t('Last name'), '#size' => 35, '#maxlength' => 35, '#weight' => -10, '#value' => $form_values['last_name'], ), [...snip...] return $form; } and the page that processes the query has a menu callback akin to this: function mymodule_query_page() { $form_values = $_POST; $html = drupal_get_form('mymodule_form_query', $form_values); return $html; } Now, if I do a var_dump() in the page function, it shows that the last_name field is set in the $_POST array when the form is submitted. But it seems to have no effect in the mymodule_form_query function. That function is called TWICE, once with values in $_POST and again with nothing. It seems that the only time it pays attention to its #value (or #default_value -- I've tried both) options is the second time it's called, that is, when $form_values is empty. Ergo, no values for the fields. I've tried this as well, with no effect: function mymodule_form_query_submit($form_id, $form_values) { $GLOBALS['mymodule_query'] = $form_values; } and then querying $GLOBALS['mymodule_query']['last_name'] in the mymodule_form_query() function to obtain the value. Although trace code within the submit shows that the value is in fact present there, somehow my global variable is erased or ignored by the time it gets to the form building process. Oddly, if I change the form to GET rather than POST method, the $_GET variable behaves the way I would have expected $_POST to work, and the fields are filled in. But it's really ugly to do it that way, because among other things the URL then contains the form_token and may be bookmarked by users as such -- Not Good. What am I doing wrong here? Someone has to have done this before, so I'd greatly appreciate any assistance. What's the RIGHT way to do this? Is there a place where Drupal actually nukes all global variables during initialization, and where it erases $_POST? > a) Add a view to the content of a node Have a look at the component module's component_get_view() function. Don't actually use component, but you can grab the few lines of code you need from it. Thank you. I looked at the code. I see how to use it as a link from the node (using the hook_menu example in the code). But, I don't see how to actually have the automatcially view come up when the event node is viewed. I've almost got this working. Utilizing code contributed in the module development forum, I have verified that my $output is correct. I have a screen shot here: http://www.scbbs.com/node/307 In agenda_nodeapi, this one line doesn't appear to work: $node->content['agenda'] = array( '#value' => $output, '#weight' => 15, ); I'm defining the field "agenda" here. This is not defined or set up anywhere but here. Is this how it's supposed to work? If so, what could I possibly be doing wrong here? Listing nodes is a great place to use the views module to construct and display a default view and add it to the content of the node. Listing Nodes on a Node View

I've created an agenda.module which associates agenda nodes with event nodes. I wish to list all agenda nodes associated with a particular event when I view the event. I've come up with code in hook_nodeapi that I *thought* would do this, but it isn't. Can anyone help? setting mail server for development

Hello, Recently, I was trying to debug a patch for devel_issues.module: the problem was with the formatting of the mail notification. I had troubles working efficiently on that patch because my development platform is not configured to send mails (to myself!). In order to work on patches like this and for some contrib modules, I absolutely need to set myself up so that mails do get delivered. I am using Linux (currently Mandriva 2006, though I plan to switch to Debian). I have installed the packages postfix and postfix-mysql, though I am not sure I need such a full featured software for simple Drupal devel needs. I don't have a static IP, so I didn't know how to proceed with the postfix configuration. Also, I am concerned about security issues. The mail server needn't be open to the world. The mail sent don't need to leave my local computer. Is there a way to configure Apache (or whatever is handling this) to sent emails directly to a file somewhere on my computer? How do you handle such issues? Augustin.
