Hi, During my translation of druapl, I noticed the use of the word 'localization' in a place where the word 'language' could fit quite perfect (Needless to say the former is harder to translate ;)). I could be wrong in case drupal developers want to expand the locale module in the future to include other localization support like other calendars for example. Contributions cvs checkout broken on OS X 10.3

contributions/modules/betterupload has a lowercase 'cvs' directory in it, as well as the standard uppercase 'CVS' directory. OS X hates this because it is only case-preserving, not case-sensitive and sees the two directories as being the same. Consequently, it is impossible to checkout the contributions repository at least with the version of cvs that comes with the Mac OS 10.3 development tools. (CVS 1.10). The Error... cvs checkout: in directory contributions/modules/betterupload/cvs: cvs checkout: cannot open CVS/Entries for reading: No such file or directory cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot write <CVS/Template file>: No such file or directory Can anyone fix this? Or do I just have to update to a newer OS... -Rowan

OpenID

Greetings, A few months ago, a co-worker of mine created a Drupal module to support OpenID logins. The module was based on Dan Libby's PHP OpenID library. For anyone wanting to catch up, it was discussed here: http://drupal.org/node/33254 Some other OpenID discussion is here: http://drupal.org/node/23256 I've taken over the development of the module and I've updated the module to use the JanRain PHP OpenID implementation, which is a feature-complete port of our Python library. Our PHP library can be found here: http://www.openidenabled.com/openid/libraries/php Here is a link to the current module source, which is under fairly heavy development: http://www.openidenabled.com/resources/downloads/php-openid/openid.module Since authentication in general is probably a topic of considerable interest to you all, I want to be sure the OpenID module measures up. I've tried to be sure I understand Drupal's authentication internals and the role OpenID can play, but please correct me where appropriate. Here are some notes about the module: - The plugin declares a block hook and provides a one-field OpenID login form that appears in the left navbar. The module is not really an authentication module because it doesn't declare an appropriate authentication hook (username@server syntax won't work for OpenID). Various other callbacks in the module handle the OpenID authentication steps and set $user when appropriate. - If you log in with an OpenID and don't have a local Drupal account, an account is created for you with the appropriate authmap record. However, you'll be prompted for an email address upon successful OpenID authentication *before* the Drupal account is created. (My goal here is to make sure any kind of profile info needed is collected before the OpenID-auth'd user is allowed into Drupal.) - My major concern is how to blend OpenID with existing accounts so users can choose to use OpenID for their accounts. On my drupal installation, I can log in with a username and password or OpenID to access the same account, provided the appropriate authmap record is present (which I created manually). The use case we can think of here is, "I'm already known as johnboy on this Drupal installation, but I want to access the johnboy account with an OpenID now. How can I tell Drupal about that?" I'm thinking that the OpenID module can implement a form to let users configure this, but it will probably involve setting the users.pass field to NULL. What do you think? Do you have any recommendations for how we should go about doing this? What would be consistent for your futuristic vision of Drupal authentication? Any feedback would be much appreciated. a couple things to discuss about base_path()

While base_path() does many a good thing, it also presents a couple of obstacles that could use further discussion. - Enabling or disabling clean_urls on a site with content will break hand-rolled links. For example on my staging server clean_urls are disabled but they're enabled in production. If I continue to do that, my links will break. - Moving a Drupal site from one subdirectory to another or from a subdirectory up to a root folder will break links if the site is using clean_urls. How should we solve these problems? A couple of ideas. Let's pick one. 1) Provide a link updater script in the scripts/ folder 2) Add some sort of 'fix my links' button via the admin interface 3) Hook a URL fixing script into the clean_url form toggle so it runs after the setting has changed. 4) Make a link-updater contrib module to point users to. I'm in the camp of #4 since I see this as a rarely used interface option. Oh, and I'm also volunteering my time to write the mod. Matt Westgate | www.lullabot.com

Drupal & automated testing

I know I do not yet have much credibility in the Drupal community, so I apologize in advance for making sweeping statements. I think the Drupal process could really benefit from a culture of obsessive automated testing. I have been programming for over 15 years, and one of the most valuable mottoes I have heard is "If a feature is not covered by an automated test, it does not exist". Practically, if something like Simpletest was in core, then the requirement for submitting a patch could be increased to also submitting a test that exposes the original bug & shows that it has been fixed. Skilled users could submit tests that expose the bug as part of the original issue submission. And submitting original tests could be a great way for new users to contribute. As the coverage of the submitted tests grows, developers will be able to have more and more confidence that the patch they are submitting does not cause regressions. Programming on complex systems is just so much more fun, when you know you are not breaking someone else's hard work. A comprehensive test framework can become a safety net, supporting Drupal's rapid evolution. Right now it seems like Drupal succeeds because it has such a robust community, which is willing to act as a test system, but that approach runs the risk of exhausting everyone involved. I know everyone has way too much on there plates right now to really consider culture change, but I wanted to try and get this idea out there. If there is one gift I can give to the Drupal community, out of half a lifetime of experience with many programming languages and cultures, this is it. Update Notifications

Today while I was updating my Firefox extensions, it occurred to me that this would be some really nice functionality to have in a CMS. What if every time an admin logged in or ran a "Check For Updates" module, he'd get a list of his active modules with lower version numbers that what's currently available in CVS? Maybe the list has a link to each module's project page for immediate review and download. The module itself sounds like it would be relatively simple: parse the version number out of each of the module files and compare them against a master list of current versions. The trick would be that master list. I'm imagining something like an XML file hosted on cvs.drupal.org that generates on call (or maybe once a day). Does this sound interesting to anyone but me? Actually, does anyone know how to print attachment module attachments using phptemplate ? I figured out how to print upload module attachments, but most of my nodes use attachment module. Image Support in the upcoming drupal release

Hi, I am testiung drupal extensively. great ideas, really, you made a fine job there. *BUT* I need to admit, that the image handling is absolutely not acceptable at the moment. I read about I think 4 or 5 different ways to get inline images into articles. That is all "hidden" in the forums and users have to fight thru several modules to get something working that people are used to get as an out-of-the-box feature. inline, upload, img. img_assist, then complications with different other modules, inline tags showing up in taxonomy blocks, editors not working because of patches... totally unusable for "the normal user" I really like drupal. PLEASE make the image uploading thing an important issue - please tidy up that image module jungle and provide ONE working and good integrated image tool that comes with drupal core. please do not release any new drupal without that image functionality beeing at least as good and usable as in other systems around.
