There are some expressions we translated, with the latest "pot" files, and on the 5.1 they are appearing in English.
Example:
"If you want to add a static page, like a contact page or an about page, use a page."
"Stories are articles in their simplest form: they have a title, a teaser and a body, but can be extended by other modules. The teaser is part of the body too. Stories may be used as a personal blog or for news articles."
Both are translated (on the "system-install.po"), but on the site they still appear in english. The most strange is when I search on the database (http://www.liberal-social.org/admin/settings/locale/string/search), the expressions are there and are translated.
Where is the problem? What can I do about it?

I've encountered a similar problem when I moved a database from one server to another one. Suddenly some - but not all - of the translated strings wouldn't show up anymore, although they were still in the database. When I searched and then saved the strings they would show up again.
I then exported all my tranlations as a PO file, dropped the translation, and created a new one from the PO file.

Gerhard, content type names and descriptions is an entirely different problem. Content type details are stored in the database and not translated later (just like the name of the forums vocabulary, or suggested and enabled menu items, or...).

The problem is by design: When you install Drupal, these strings are inserted in the database. They are wrapped in t() (or st()), but since you don't have a translation at install time, the english strings are written to the database. You can solve this problem by renaming the "installer.po" from your translation tarball to "es.po" or "de.po" and copying it to /profiles/default". The Drupal installer then prompts you with a language selection prior to the installation.
