Hi everybody,
I just finished translating intaller.po into italian. How can I using it with the new installer (install.php)?
I think that having localized installer means that .po files will be included into the Drupal core.. or not?
I had a fast look at the handbook and on the .txt files but not found informations about it.

For whatever reason, the INSTALL.txt does not include documentation on how to translate the installer. These language PO files will not get included in default Drupal downloads. You can instruct your users to place languagename.po files into the install profile folder. Eg, in case of an Italian translation, put the file into /profiles/default/it.po This instruction should get included in the INSTALL.txt of Drupal of course.

Thank you Gabor for your fast reply.
I will give it a try asap.
However I would like to know: why Drupal will not ship with localized po in it? What have been the decisions about this?
Obviously I'm sure that non English speaking people will be really happy in getting the installer asking what is their favorite language..
Or maybe the effort of creating already translated distributions is on the different localized community?

The main problem is that if you start off with a localized interface "without effort", you expect Drupal to start working in the language you used to install it, right? Now Drupal (or a custom install profile) is not there yet to automatically import the PO files for the modules which are turned on by your install profile as a default. If this would be the case, it would be easier to stuff in translations.
AFAIK the idea is to offer localized distributions, once the code is in place to automatically import module translations for the modules turned on by the install profile. This can be done as a contrib project fortunately.
