Hello everyone, let me introduce myself, too. My name is Adam Rambousek and I'm from Czech republic. As this indicates, I'm translating Drupal to Czech with the help of a few friends. With 4.6, we have translated some 99% and I stopped the remaining translation waiting for 4.7 release.
Would it be possible to release 4.7 POT a bit earlier before final release? I think there should not be much changes in strings and translators could at least import strings from 4.6 to have some translation ready for 4.7 release.

Gerhard Killesreiter (killes) is the translation coordinator so that is for him to decide. I hope to release a first Drupal 4.7.0 release candidate this week though.

I still need to annouce this list on the forums and will post some plan on what I'd like to discuss on this mailing list.

I intended to wait for this to happen. There were quite a number od chanes especially to the help texts. They are now generally shorter and broken up into smaller strings so translating them should be easier.

Just to introduce myself, I am Gabor Hojtsy, one of the architects behind the current web based locale facility (mainly language management and import). I am officially named the locale module maintainer, so although it did not need much maintanance lately, feel free to direct discussions about this feature to this list. I was also one of those who pushed PO files into mainstream use along with Gerhard, but was only keeping an eye on Drupal development lately because of university tasks (I am attending university). Unfortunately my university status is not really improving, I am not particularly good in passing exams on topics I don't really care about, so in the meantime, I am also in observing mode.

I've seen a fair number of complaints about the locale module running out of memory when importing .po files (example: http://drupal.org/ node/40507). This might be worth investigating in preparation of the Drupal 4.7.0 release.

I plan to try to "enforce" a string freeze with the code freeze for 4.7. that means, that once the freeze is in place, no more strings can be changed. this is how all mayor projects do it. With "enforcing" I mean, that I will try as much as possible to keep an eye on al bug patches to see whether they change any strings. And if so, report that in the issue tracker.

Hi all, I'm Matteo Ferrari, from Italy, I contributed, together with Michele and other friends in www.drupalitalia.org, to Drupal Italian translation and user support. At the moment, we translated more than 90% of the 4.6.3 code, but we stopped waiting for 4.7. We're also focused in the translation of several contributed modules, so a huge work...

My name is FEHÉR János (in Hungarian the firstname and surname are swapped, so my firstname is János :). I usually help to translate Drupal core and it's modules to Hungarian, and as I can, I support drupal with patches, suggestions, etc.

Just a short intro. I am René Nieuwburg, from the Netherlands, but living with a German wife in the rainy green north of Spain. My daughters were born here and speak three languages at home. I have set up Drupal systems for mainly Spanish clients and therefore do some on-the-fly translation of modules that they like to use.
I was just wondering if the mailing list setting could be changed that when I hit the reply button, that the resulting message will be directed to the mailing list (Reply to header?). Thank you!

Hi everybody,
My name is Katrin Silvius and I am slowly but surely translating Drupal into Estonian. Even tho I no longer live in Estonia I try to maintain Estonian translation hoping some day someone else would like to help me with this. I`m planning to use Drupal for my personal website as well as for my business, but right now I`m stuck with translating some strings.
How would you translate taxonomy if there is no such word in the language nor anything close to it? I`m tempted to translate it as a system of organized keywords - this makes more sense than coming up with a completely new word for taxonomy.

Usually when I'm stuck in a situation like your I try to understand what other projects did...
You can look what did in KDE or GNOME ...
But taxonomy is a very specific word so don't think this helps you...

It comes from the biological taxonomy. It is a ancient Greek word if i am not mistaken. In most languages it just translates to taxonomie or taxonomy or so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxonomy refer to the translations in the left bar. Any dictionary with scientific backgrounds will list this under the category "evolution" or "biology".

In Spanish we have "categorias" in the menu item, but the description in admin/taxonomy page mentions "taxonomias". At least in Spanish, taxonomies implies a little bit more than just categorization or classification.
Also, most Spanish people I know say "taxonomias" when talking about that, even customers without previous experience with Drupal.

That rather depends on the use. This discussion is a never-ending one, that is true. In general I would say: for simple implementations, use category. For more complex use of taxonomy stick to what it is: "taxonomy".

Not exactly. We translate category to its corresponding "kategória" pair, and taxonomy to "taxonómia". This last word is known in library and academic circles, yet much unknown in the public field. It is not a problem if our users need to learn a bit before they can fully use the system IMHO (do not go into this question, it could be a heated thread, but we would like to focus on real work done :)
