Drupal 5 RC2 translation templates are ready

Hello World, I have made the updated translation templates available for Drupal 5 RC2. There are some improvements in Drupal core, which means slightly more strings (but better translatability overall). There were also some improvements and changes made to the extractor, so that these result in changed templates. The main changes in the extractor are: - .info file strings are now folded into general.pot (for core), as it turned out that users expect to see translated module descriptions, when deciding on whether to enable a module or not. This is a usability fix for the multiple PO file model we are experimenting with for later packages of your translations. Read up on this distribution model here if you are interested: http://drupal.hu/english/node/7 - All .pot files have CVS $Id$ comments now. This was a feature request, so that downloaded POT files have their exact versions in them. This is in line with the suggested Drupal guidelines of every possible file having CVS id comments. - There were some bugs fixed around node_perm() and time interval related strings. Drupal fixes add on up these of course. Konstantin already tried to show some issues related to the fixes which resulted in string changes (on 19th Dec 2006). RFC: moving contrib translations into their own projects

please see http://drupal.org/node/105986#comment-172684 this would solve the following problems: 1) needing to provide access control for translations separate from the contrib module code. 2) allowing translations to be tagged, released and packaged independently of the corresponding contrib code. so, when a popular module (e.g. views, events, etc) finally ships its 5.x-1.0 version, you can decide when to release the XY-views-5.x-1.0 translation (to language 'XY') whenever it's ready. right now, there's little or no coordination between module developers and translators, so the .po files that get released along with the contrib are almost always going to be out of date and incomplete. 3) most contrib users don't care about all the translations for a given module. however, people trying to use another language interface on their site might be interested to know all the contribs that have been translated to a that language. currently, there's no way to search for this. my proposal linked above addresses all 3. please comment there: http://drupal.org/project/comments/add/105986 thanks, -derek (dww)

Auto locale module (and an interesting bug(?))

Hi All, I have been working on an automatic locale file import module, so that we can provide install profiles which automatically import the PO files for modules enabled, without any user intervention (turn on locale module, add language, file upload). The alpha quality code works, imports all PO files I have thrown at it. I have left two debug messages in the code, because I experienced very interesting database behaviour while testing the code, and would appreciate your feedback. Project here with CVS link: http://drupal.org/project/autolocale My problem is that although I do a SELECT on the system table and go through that list sequentially I get: # Handling themes/engines/phptemplate/phptemplate.engine # Handling themes/garland/page.tpl.php # Handling modules/system/system.module # Importing modules/system/po/general.hu.po # Importing modules/system/po/system-install.hu.po # Importing modules/system/po/system-module.hu.po # Handling themes/engines/phptemplate/phptemplate.engine # Handling themes/garland/page.tpl.php # Handling modules/system/system.module # Importing modules/system/po/general.hu.po # Importing modules/system/po/system-install.hu.po # Importing modules/system/po/system-module.hu.po # Handling modules/autolocale/autolocale.module # Handling modules/block/block.module # Handling modules/color/color.module # .... Seems like it does go through the phptemplate engine, the garland theme and the system module twice. I have absolutely no idea why it would do this, since these appear in the database only once. I would appreciate if someone would be able to test and provide tips. This module/install profile would invalidate the need to merge the smaller PO files used by translators and really only import needed strings finally. I am going to beta test the concept with the Hungarian translation if the above issue can be resolved. Have a merry christmas, Gabor (who is now off to christmas dinner :)
